Top 5 Technical Upskilling Programs in India

Skill development plays a vital role in any individual’s life. Especially in a country like India, skilling, upskilling, and reskilling improves employment opportunities and research activities. According to research, India’s workforce will have an additional strength of 70 million people of the working-age, i.e. 15-59 years, by the year 2023. In such a scenario, there is an increasing need for a skilled workforce as well as formal recognition of acquired skills. The Central, as well as State Governments, has also launched various skill development training programs for empowering and upskilling the youth of the country. The skilling programs are aimed to construct initiatives for students and professionals to expand their understanding and to open new career opportunities for them. In this blog, we will discuss the top 5 Skill Development Program in India. So without further ado, let’s dive in.

  1. CSIR-CDRI Workshops: It is a part of the Skill India initiative launched by the government of India in order to improve employment and innovation. Central Drug Research Institute (CDRI) along with CSIR has launched the certification training for applicants in the field of chemical analysis and evaluation tools.

The training platform has a whole set of practical lessons and hands-on training.

The training modules include details of tools like NMR, HPLC LC-MS, and UV/IR.

Various methodologies of processing such as screening of novel antimicrobial agents, tools for drug design, and development and electron microscopy.

The course is utterly beneficial for candidates pursuing life science, drug discovery, and research.

The program is hosted by CDRI Lucknow annually. The application deadline starts one month prior to the commencement of the program.

  1. INUP sponsored hands-on training: Indian Nanoelectronics Users Program (INUP) is an initiative started by the Centres of Excellence in Nanoelectronics (CEN), based at IISC Bangalore and IIT Bombay, solely dedicated to developing innovations in the field of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology.

The aim of the initiative is to enhance the access of cutting-edge technologies to young researchers.

With the collaboration of IISC and IIT, the CEN organises workshops in Nanoelectronics in as well as remote locations for better accessibility of the researchers.

The workshops facilitate hands-on training and support young researchers in research activities at the CENs.

In order to promote ideas and innovation to develop skills, CEN partners with various institutions of the country.

Under the program, a unique platform has also been developed to submit project proposals and explore one’s research envisaged.

  1. ISRO Sponsored Training and Workshops: In order to promote design and development in the country, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) facilitates conducting undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) training, workshops, and internships. The training program is conducted by a collaboration of institutions like ISRO, Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST) Trivandrum, Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS) Dehradun, National Atmospheric Research Laboratory (NARL), ISRO Satellite Centre (ISAC), Semiconductor Lab (SCL), Chandigarh, and so on.

Workshop in electronics engineering includes certification in the field of remote sensing and GIS, Digital systems, Astronomy, and Space Sciences.

Training in mechanical engineering includes mathematical modeling, Electro-optics, Astrophysics, and Optical Physics.

  1. IIM Ahmedabad collaborative research workshop: In a calendar year, IIM Ahmedabad conducts three research workshops across pan India. The main aim of these workshops is to provide opportunities and platforms to research students. IIM has tied up with several other institutions to host the event that lasts for 2-3 days. The workshop has a number of themes and each one is different from the previous one so that the research community can get experience in diverse fields.
  1. AIIMS New Delhi workshop series:It is quite often that medical students have different aspirations when it comes to their specialization and interests. In order to support such aspiration, the AIIMS institutions across the country provide a quality platform to cultivate it. The series of workshops are sponsored by various medical institutions and training partners across the country. You just need to keep yourself updated regarding the openings and deadlines of the application across the medical fraternity.

If you look at the change in the employability of the candidates over the past 6 years, it is growing at a steady pace. Moreover, as mentioned above, the number of youth in the population is growing dramatically and there is an increasing need for institutions that promote certification courses to enhance the employability of the candidates.
