UK announces 75 fully funded scholarships for Indian students

This is a significant milestone as India celebrates its 75th year, said Alex Ellis, the British High Commissioner to India, at the UK-India Week event of the India Global Forum in London.Beginning in September, the 75 scholarships will be completely supported for Indian students who wish to study in the UK.

The UK is one of the most sought-after study destinations in the world and is renowned for its history, language, culture, and innovation. In honour of India's 75th anniversary of independence, the UK government recently has teamed with prominent Indian companies to give 75 fully-funded scholarships for Indian students to study in the UK beginning in September. The number of fully-funded scholarships awarded for a one-year master's degree is now at its greatest level. This unique project is supported by businesses like HSBC, Pearson India, Hindustan Unilever, Tata Sons, and Duolingo.

As part of the 75 scholarships, HSBC India will fund 15 of them, Pearson India will fund two, Hindustan Unilever, Tata Sons, and Duolingo will each fund one.

You will become a member of varied community of more than 50,000 graduates when your scholarship is over. You'll go back home with the know-how and contacts you need to realise your ideas and advance your career.

What is offered under this initiative?

A one-year master's programme with the option to study any subject at any reputable UK university is one of the programmes on offer. Since 1983, 150 countries have participated in the international honours programme known as Chevening. With more than 3,500 alumni, India's Chevening programme is the largest in the world.

Additionally, the British Council in India is providing at least 18 STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) scholarships for women, spanning more than 12,000 courses at more than 150 UK universities. The British Council is also providing six more English scholarships.

How much money is made available for study in the UK through these scholarships?

The completely financed scholarship mentioned above covers all expenses for a one-year postgraduate study, including tuition, a monthly stipend, travel to and from the UK, an arrival allowance, the cost of one visa application, and travel grants to attend Chevening events there. Candidates must have at least two years of work experience to be eligible for the scholarship.

Required paperwork

All Chevening applicants must submit their transcripts, letters of recommendation, and one unconditional offer from a UK university. The Chevening application timeline contains the due dates for these necessary documents.
