How much financial aid is offered through these scholarships?

Each institution has a different award structure and money available. Some research programs not only pay a portion of your living expenses but also up to 100% of the tuition. In comparison to university scholarships, there may be more competition when you apply for government scholarships. Therefore, we advise starting the treatment around 8 to 12 months before the commencement of your preferred intake.

You can apply to the following well-known scholarships as an Indian student:

1. New Zealand International Doctoral Research Scholarships (NZIDRS)

These government-funded scholarships are available to Indian students who want to study for a PhD in New Zealand. University tuition expenses, related student levies, a living allowance of up to $25,000 tax-free, and three years of health insurance are all covered by this award. (However, it may change depending on the type of school provider.)

2. International Student Excellence Scholarship at the University of Auckland

Master’s, PG Diploma, or Bachelor’s Degree

Scholarships awarded: 50

The University of Auckland International Student Excellence Scholarship is available to new international undergraduate and postgraduate students who are applying to pursue a taught PGDip or Masters of 120 points or more, or who are applying to study undergraduate degrees (with overseas secondary or post-secondary qualifications). Any subject may be researched.

The primary goal of the Scholarship is to entice fresh, exceptionally talented overseas students to enroll in undergraduate or postgraduate taught programs at the University of Auckland for a minimum of one year.

3. Wellington masters’ by thesis scholarship

The Victoria University of Wellington is providing students beginning full-time, research-focused master’s degrees at the university with the Wellington Master’s by Thesis Scholarship in order to encourage postgraduate research at the university. The scholar should commit their entire time to the academic work required to earn the degree (full time is at least 35 hours per week).

4. Wellington’s Victoria University also offers Tongarewa Scholarship

Master’s or Bachelor’s Degree

A maximum of 10 scholarships worth NZ$10,000 each for bachelor’s and master’s degrees, and a maximum of 9 scholarships worth NZ$5,000 each for master’s degrees only, are available.

Victoria University of Wellington is providing the Tongarewa Scholarship in recognition of its commitment to its community of overseas students. Applicants must be entering either a postgraduate degree programme or their first year of an undergraduate degree at Victoria University of Wellington. Recipients are expected to function as ambassadors for Victoria University of Wellington and participate in marketing initiatives when requested.

5. New Zealand Commonwealth Scholarships

Indian students may apply for the Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan when they apply for a master’s or PhD programme (CSFP). The programme will pay for setup costs, housing expenses, travel expenses, and health insurance. This scholarship has a lot of advantages, including:

1. Undergraduate First Year Scholarships at UC International

Bachelor’s Degree from Canterbury University

Up to 25 scholarships are offered overall.

The UC International First Year Scholarship is available to deserving international students beginning a bachelor’s degree programme at the university.

2. NZ-GRADS New Zealand Global Research Alliance Doctoral Scholarship

If you want to finish your PhD in agricultural emission science, check out the new NZ-GRADS programme from the Global Research Alliance on Agricultural Greenhouse Gas Emissions. For a period of three years (36 months), it covers the following costs:

  • tuition costs of up to NZD 10,000 annually

College of Waikato

PhD, Masters, or Bachelor’s Degree

Bright overseas students from eligible countries who are enrolling for the first time in undergraduate or graduate programmes at the University of Waikato may apply for the Overseas Excellence Scholarship. The scholarships will be awarded to applicants who demonstrate exceptional academic success and a strong potential to represent the University of Waikato worldwide.

4. SEG Scholarship

The Soshi Educational Group is responsible for funding this scholarship programme. For undergraduates (via A and B scholarships and other programmes), it promotes the study of geophysics and related geosciences (C scholarships)

What the scholarships are worth

  • NZD 7,000 per year for Scholarship A, 
  • NZD 5,000 per year for Scholarship B, and 
  • NZD 3,000 per year for SEG Scholarship C.

The award is valid for a year.

4. Scholarship for Goodwill Ambassadors offered by Palmerston North City Mayor

The Palmerston North City Council is funding it in order to advertise Palmerston North as an ideal place for overseas students. It is offered for undergraduate, graduate, and career-based/vocational courses. The scholarship is worth NZD 1,000 toward the cost of tuition for the first year.
